舒曼的鋼琴音樂作品大多以暗示和引用為背景來完成整個樂曲，與文學性的東西結合起來，包含許多個性小品，將之串聯成「套曲」，如同詩人將感情濃縮在詩中，兩套曲集都是舒曼重要的鋼琴作品，在音樂教育上扮演重要的角色。

（Robert Alexander Schumann 1810～1856）
舒曼是德國浪漫主義時代最偉大的作曲家之一。父親是一個專志於文學著作與出版業的人。據說羅伯特的樂才是他母親遺傳的，他之所以能夠透過文學，在音樂評論上留下了鉅大的成就，誠然是受父親的影響。在他一生四十多年之中，曾經有過短暫的國外旅行之外，始終都在國內，晚年相當悽慘，最後兩年多，大半都在精神醫院渡過。
